Each of Michael Chesley Johnson’s colorful landscapes depicts a “moment in time.” Evoking the brilliant light of the American Southwest and Maine’s coastal areas, Chesley’s paintings represent a deep meditation by the artist on the world he inhabits.
Michael paints primarily outdoors in oil, pastel and gouache. In addition to painting professionally full-time, he teaches plein air painting workshops and hosts painting retreats in scenic locations. A frequent writer for art magazines, Michael wrote his latest book, Beautiful Landscape Painting Outdoors: Mastering Plein Air, for both beginners as well as experienced painters.
Michael Chesley Johnson was awarded Master Pastelist status by Pastel Artists Canada in 2008 and he is a Signature Member of the American Impressionist Society and the Pastel Society of America. His paintings have appeared in many magazines and are in both corporate and private collections. He was featured in The Artist's Magazine in September 2013.
Michael Chesley Johnson currently lives and works in New Mexico.
