Cheyenne people gathered along waterfront, some dipping hands in water, some carrying umbrellas. Photogravure plate from Edward Sheriff Curtis' "The North American Indian", plate 663 entitled "At the Pool, Animal Dance - Cheyenne". Sepia portrait is one of the large supplemental plates from volume nineteen of Curtis' comprehensive project to document all the native tribes of the Americas, a many-decade feat completed in 1930. This plate is one of only 36 large supplemental plates from volume XIX, focusing on the Indians of Oklahoma, the Wichita, Southern Cheyenne, Oto, Southern Comanche, and The Peyote Cult.
