DOUG HYDE

Doug Hyde is known for his sculptures of native Americans. He prefers working in stone, and most often his bronzes are cast from stone originals. He was born into the Nez Perce tribe in 1946, and educated at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe and the San Francisco Art Institute. A student of the renowned sculptor Allan Houser, he succeeded Houser as Director of IAIA’s sculpture program. He was named Santa Fe’s Distinguished Artist in 1996, and his work is displayed in many important collections including among others the Amon Carter Museum of Western Art, the Heard Museum, the Gilcrease Museum, and the Eitelborg Museum.
