Wooden Cross
H:14 x W:8 x D:0.25

Charlie Sanchez Jr. was born in 1947 and lives in Tome, New Mexico. Charlie is a straw appliqué artist who has created his own signature style by experimenting with mixed media.

Charlie incorporates traditional techniques, while continuing to explore new and innovative design, and always has a focus on self expression. His art is coated with home-made gesso and painted with his own hand made colors before the straw and other native vegetation is applied to the surface of his work.

His style is different in that he uses natural pigments to color his crosses in interesting new shades of blue, brown, green, red, and other natural color tones .

Charlie has won numerous awards for his traditional folk art and has been collected by several museums throughout the Southwest and many private collections.
