Flett, George
Return to Images
George Flett, an American Indian artist living on the Spokane Reservation in Wellpinit, Washington, is one of the foremost Indian artists in the Northwest. He is also one of
a growing number of artists who continue the tradition of ledger art.
He collects a variety of historic ledgers as well as Congressional Records, maps, deeds, and other official documents. Flett's work often reflects the historical development of ledger art from traditional ledger style to contemporary mixed media based on Spokane legends and history. Some of his pieces sometimes contain embossing and beadwork. Other ledger style work is painted on pipe bags and elk skin.
