Chase, Jaime
Known for his organic abstraction with figurative references, Jamie Chase continues to explore the question of the place of humankind in the world and how we move toward realization. He says that he is "trying to give voice to self-awareness ... to experience life on as many levels as I can." Art should provide some sort of trans formative journey, Chase believes, for the artist as well as for the viewer. For Chase, opening doors, creating thresholds that will accommodate entrance to other worlds and places is a primary objective in his work. His paintings are deliberately ambiguous; he wants to suggest, he says, not to describe. In beginning a painting, he begins with a composition and an idea of how it might evolve. As he develops the painting he tries to get out of the way, he says, and let the information through so that the "story has a life of its own".
